Impromptu Concert/Jam Session

The 2011 La Roche Bluegrass Festival takes place from August 3-7. There are 30 groups for 2011 from throughout Europe and three from the US. Something new is a children’s concert on Saturday August 6th at 3pm. This is part of an effort to make La Roche Bluegrass more family friendly. There are other children’s activities on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

As with previous La Roche Bluegrass Festivals all concerts are free. 10 groups are competing for the title of best European Bluegrass band for 2011.

The official festival kickoff is Thursday August 6th at 7pm. Before that groups will be playing impromptu concerts/jam sessions in the center of La Roche sur Foron in local cafes and on the sidewalk. This is known as the Festival Off. One great place to hear these spur-of-the-moment performances is near the Grenette next to the town hall.

Along with the concerts there will be a country and western market, book and CD sellers, Sunday mass, square dancing and a music instrument making workshop for kids. As with last year there will also be wall climbing and food and drinks.

For anyone wanting to learn or improve their Bluegrass there will be ‘master class’ workshops.
