Question: Early last year I married a French woman, in America. We working on getting her immigration in order here in America and mine in France taken care of right now... in hopes of our moving back to France in the future. I am an industrial designer, kind of an engineer slash sculptor - I create the "look" appearance, color, ect, for products. To make a long story short, I want to start building contacts and understand realistically; How hard is it to continue a career in France? I know the school systems are very rigorous there, and even joining a school now is a little out of the norm (I'm 28, with a BA). I was thinking I could make connections this way...
Do you know of Americans who have successfully made this jump into France and did not sacrifice their careers? How did they do it? Can you help me become connected with them, so I could talk to them about their experiences?

Answer: I don't know anyone that has moved to France and not sacrifice their career. Personally I have found the transition to steady work in France very difficult. Compare the move to France as any move to a new city where you don't have the contacts or have any relations, then triple it. I am sure for you it could be possible but I know that it will not be easy. Try the yahoo group Live-in-France, someone there might be able to help you or post in my forum.
