Q & A

Subject: How do we move to France?

Question: Hi, I am married to a French citizen. He originally came here to the US, but we have decided to move back to France. I have no clue on how to even start going about this and neither does he :). Do you have any advice you could offer? Thanks!

Answer:

I guess the best place to start is to think about where you both want to live and how you will support yourselves in France. You personally need to start looking into getting a visa for France, it should not be that hard have a look at, http://www.americansinfrance.net/DailyLife/VisaInformation.cfm. Being married to a Frenchman, you will have no problem, but the paperwork can be a pain.

Once you decide where you want to live, then start looking into finding a place. Have a look at any on-line newspapers from whichever town or region you decide to live in, that should give you an idea as to price. Be warned it is not easy to find a place to stay if you are not already living in France. French landlords demand proof of employment before they will rent to someone.

Lastly, the job market is tight in France right now, so start looking before you move to France for a job. Even if you can't find anything you at least will get an idea as to salary and qualifications needed. Hope this helps.
