Q & A

Subject: Follow up to Touring Europe

Question: We recently asked a question about touring Europe, and got a reply from you of which we thank you. We are not clear on your price for B&B in France, is this per person and we want the price per night. Also the price of gas and diesel per gallon, perhaps you could give us the prices in the Euro and we can convert to the Canadian dollars ourselves. Also could you give us the usual weather and temperature in April from North to South France. We tried your suggested web page on Gites de France, but this is all in French and we could not understand it. Thank you.

Answer: The price I gave was per room for two people, one night. For an example of price, this last weekend my wife and I went to Verdun, we looked for a B&B and found one for 64 Euros a night for us and our child. It was a 3 épis(épis means ears of corn in French and is how B&B’s are rated in France, the scale is from one to four, four being best.) We found this to be expensive and did not stay. We would have had a full private bath, something that you do not always get, and of course breakfast. I would say that you can easily get a room for two, from 35 euros at 1 épis to 70 euros at 4 épis. My sister in-law has a B&B in Burgundy that you might want to take a look at. The price of fuel in France per liter is, diesel(gazole in French) .70 to .84 euros and unleaded gas(sans plomb in French) about 1.10 euros. If possible don’t buy your diesel/gas on the French Autoroute, as it is very expensive, try to buy at supermarkets like Auchan, Round Pont or Atac. When your driving, look for signs that read “Centre Commercial”, you will be directed to shopping centers where you should find one of the stores listed above. For your weather question it’s hard for me to say in April it could be any where from 55 to 80 degrees, sunny, overcast or rainy.
