Q & A

Subject: 23 and would like to live in France.

Question: I 'm a 23-year-old female, interested in moving to France. My French is extremely limited but, I have the confidence that, even though it would be difficult, I could learn to speak fluent. Especially if I lived there. I'm not a college grad. I have taken classes and currently still enrolled. Though I have no long-term goal. I would just like the experience of living there, maybe to stay if things work out but I defiantly want to try. Do you have any suggestion or tips/advice about possible make it work in the easiest way? I would appreciate any helpful hints.

Answer: I would suggest that before you make the move to France you visit. This would allow you to get a feel for things and see how you like it. France is a very exciting place to live but you would be moving into a new culture and learning a new language, not easy things to do.
What you are thinking about is doable, but you need to get in touch with your nearest French consulate to find out about getting a visa. You should have no problem getting a visa for six months; a longer visa would be harder to get and I believe would need to be gotten in France.
You will not be able to legally work and the French job market is very tight right now. The cost of live in France, excluding Paris is a little cheaper in general than the US. Here are a few links you might have a look at,
