Subject: Certified Elementary Teacher - How do I get there from here?
Date: Tuesday, August 16, 2005
Name: Kathryn
Message: I am a certified teacher in Chicago and want to teach English at a school in France. However, I truly don't know where to begin, and how plausible it is for me to get a job, find and pay for an apartment, etc... My French is rusty at the moment, but if I spent next summer there (after the 2005-2006 school year ends), would that help?

I would like to teach for the 2006-2007 school year.

Message Hi Kathryn, well, I don't know what the possibilities are for you to teach in private schools, but I am sorry to say that you will find it hard to teach English in any French public school. Teachers in France are French civil servant. They have to pass a state exam AND to be French nationals. Maybe by now they also allow EU citizens to have a civil servant status (so if you are a British citizen, it might help), but I am not really sure. Maybe a 'lecteur' status, though? I wish you good luck with your search.
