Hi everyone, My husband and I are planning to retire to France in a couple of years and are trying to thoroughly reseach various areas of the country-- not an easy feat! We have visited both areas, the Loire and Normandy but would like to know if there is anyone living in either area who would be willing to share a bit of information about life in either. Any opinions on what may be a more affordable area to buy in between the two? We have a workable figure of about $3,000.00 to live on and if we sell the two-family house we are in now and downsize, we wouldn't have a mortgage in France . Your input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Debra

Hi Nicole!
Thank you so much for responding to my post. It is a difficult decision , as we only can make this move once! I do love Normandy so much, but you are certainly right about the weather. We also love the Loire and because I have asthma ,this is probably going to be a better area for me. My husband is alright with either. Thank you for your comments about the cost of living also-- glad to hear we will be o.k. in that department -- the doctor's visits are certainly more affordable in France! I wish you a lot of luck when you retire back to France Nicole! Debra

hello, I understand that it is not an easy think to do as both regions have their good, we are in the same position as you, we are going back to France after 32 years in Hollywood Florida,to retire in about 10 to 12 month and we had to choose where it will be best for us. my husband is from Normandie and for me it is to cold and rainy but it is a beautiful region, for my part I will prefer the loire as it is warmer. As for your $3000.00 you will be ok if you don't have a mortgage, the property taxes and insurance are much lower than in the state as well as car insurance and a regular doctor visit as of July 2005 is about 20-24 euros. the cost of housing is about the same than in the states, but don't forget the exchange rate. Good luck
