Subject: University diplomas equivalence
Date: Tuesday, August 02, 2005
Name: Amy
Message: Hello,

Does anyone know if American degrees are recognized here in France. Is BS. in engineering for example, considered an engineering diploma from a good school in France (un diplome d'ingenieur d'une bonne ecole d'ingeneurs?). I know that the opposite is not totally true as French diplomas have to go through some kind of evaluation.

Message Yes, for sure your diploma, the Bachelor of Science, may be recognized in France, but it's just a little lower than the french engineer diploma's of School of Engineering.. Well, I think that you could work as an engineer in France because American's BS have surely more potencials than a French of the equivalence of this diploma, the "Licence". Learn this term which can describe more your diploma for french employeers. But the problem is that french and americans diplomas are not easily linked, and the value of your diploma will depend of the employeer you'll meet. Just try to show you best. But don't surestimated the BS, it's not such a diploma like an engineer diploma of a great Ecole d'Ingenieur like "Ecole Centrale", "Ecole des Mines", and many schools of level 1 or 2 (there are 4 levels for french Schools of Engineering, the bests are in level 1)

For my part, I've just been graduated of a diploma from a french School of engineering of level 3, and it's not a piece of cake to get to this diploma, great importance in theorical aspects in the schools of engineer.
