Not sure if this is helpful or not. As for accepting of gays in France, I think it all depends on where you are and your own behavior. The larger the city, the more diverse. The smaller the village, the less diverse.
Most people I know (French) don't have any problem with someone being gay. There will always be exceptions to the rule. Where I live (Vaucluse village of 3300), if you are polite, they are polite.
Weather in September, in the South of France, is gorgeous. Still swimming, yet temps are cooler (but not always). Kids are back in school, so less tourists to battle with. I love September here.
Don't know an online translator, but I'm sure you can find one if you run a yahoo or google search. I know several who operate here in France, but I don't think they accept work online.
