We are moving soon, end of August, and we would like to bring two cats with us. Has anyone done this and what problems did you have. I'm not sure if I trust the Dallas French Consulate's advice very much, as she has not been very helpful, even to my French wife. Thank you for any information.

Oh, I forgot to add. No one has ever asked us coming or going for shots or ear tatoos etc. If you plan to stay for a long time you might bring your vet's records to give to a new vet.

Kevin,
This strategy may not be for you but it has worked for us 3 times.
Buy a "Sherpa" cat carrier, a soft-sided piece of luggage with 4 sides of ventilation. Don't feed your cat the day before. Plus, buy an XL L.L. Bean boat bag. Get the knock-out pill from your vet. Go the airport. Stop in the bathroom and shove the pill down your cat's throat. Then hydrate the cat with a turkey baster down the throat. Throw away the turkey baster (they're only a couple of bucks each).
Hold your cat while her / his little eyes roll back in her / his tiny head. Put it in the Sherpa Bag along with some "piss rags" and put the Sherpa bag into the L.L. Bean boat bag. Put a cotton sweater on top. Go through security. When the TSA bozo asks you to put the bag on the X-ray belt, take the numb cat out and put the bag on the belt. Walk through the metal detector with the cat in your arms. Put it back in the bags and board. When on board, put the Sherpa bag under your seat. Take an Ambien and join your cat in Nirvana. You did it!
We have learned not to tell the airlines about our cat. They develop a sudden urge to charge you $100 and it's none of their business anyway.

Hello, I have taken cats to France twice. It is not a problem. Just check with the airlines as not all of them accomodate cats in the aircraft. You will need a vet certificate of health, recent rabies certificate and on Air france either a microchip certificate or a tatoo. Due to airline delays and excessive temperature changes in the cargo hold, I only take the cat with me if it can go in the airplane itself. the vet can give you a tranquilizer if your cat is a howler but even then I only give 1/2 dose. Hope this helps. Pat
