Subject: bed shopping

Message: Dear Eminent Colleagues,

How do you say "sleigh bed" in French? Is it "Louis Philippe"? Have a look: http://www.furnitureontheweb.com/NoFrame/Products/Queen-Size-Sleigh-Beds-Complete1.html

I'll never find a "queen size" at a brocante / antiquaire, will I? Where would I start to look to find one actually made out of wood rather than Melamine?

A "queen size" in the U.S. is 60" x 79 ½", which is 152.4 cm x 202. How do you say "queen size" in French and what are its dimensions?

Message Hello,

some informations: - in france , standard sizes are 140cmx190cm(the most popular in France), 160cmx200cm (equivalent to your queen size), in metric system. We don't know "queen size". We have only "king size".For the french is normally 200cmx200cm ,I think, US 79"x79" approx. - You could find real wood furnitures in shop like "Crozatier". It's expensive but with high quality.(http://www.meublescrozatier.com/htm/presentation/presentation.html) - You could find with manufacturers,on demand, too. Another weblinks could be this one http://www.meublefrance.com/ (great, it runs in english version). - try the french yellow page, runs in english too : www.pagesjaunes.fr - to find old furnitures (brocante) with queen or king size, is very difficult. Lot of demands on luxury american and japan markets. And prices ..... Take your car and visit old private castles in the countryside, if you have chance... - "Louis Philippe" is a style, different size could be find with this style. nota : sorry for my not fluent english !! I am a real french, but I will progress

Good Luck

Message Me again! I just bought this bed: http://www.destockmeubles.com/ameublement_meuble+20.html. Solid wood exists but if you don't have a French friend to help you find stuff you will be lost in the wilderness. We have a huge Industrial Shopping Zone (Z.I. Keryado) near Lorient that is full of Conforama, But, Fly, etc. but none of these stores have anything that I would want in my home. Their stuff is all made out of Melamine and particle board. Come to think of it, there doesn't seem to be much plywood here either (contre-plaque). There isn't much difference between particle board and a Presto-log. Leave it out in the rain and it will turn into wet cardboard.

Destock will deliver this bed free and set it up.
