Subject: Looking to meet other English-speakers
Date: Wednesday, June 08, 2005
Name: Simon & Lisa Dodkins
Message: Hi,

We are an English couple with an 8 year old daughter who have had to relocate to Haute Savoie area due to Hurricane Ivan!

We have been here since October 2004 and we would love to meet up with other English-speakers in the area for socialising.

I work in Geneva, and we live between Annemasse and Evian in Department 74.

Both of us struggle with our French and it would be nice to speak in our mother tongue for once!

Message Hi Martin,

Well I'm from Jersey (Channel Islands) and Lisa is from California so I'm British and she is American so we have traits of both.

In my line of work not speaking French is no big deal. Most of my clients are not Swiss or French, and all of the service providers are outside of this region and all speak English as a first language. My company is actually Dutch but we have most of our offices in English-speaking countries so in the office we all tend to speak English.

I have some experience with other Geneva companies so if you want to drop me a line at "[email protected]" I'll do my best to help you out.

Be good to meet up when you get here and have a beer.

Simon

Message Hello,

Before I start I'm not American but English, I'm going to be living in Geneva from 5th July onwards. I've worked in the US before and had an enjoyable time, and got on well with my American co-workers, and wouldn't mind meeting up if you wanted to.

The other reason I replyed to your post was due to you saying that your French wasn't very strong,I'm the same, and was wondering how you manage in work. I'm trying to find companies which have english as their working language so I can apply can you suggest any you know of?

Kind regards

Martin
