Subject: Visa Complication
Date: Friday, May 19, 2006
Name: Anne Drolet
Message: Hello all -

I am hoping to get some feedback.... I just received a work visa but the Local Labor Dept in Lyon who approved my visa (ANAEM) said that if my salary is less than 4500 euro per month, my husband can not accompany me!! They refuse to write a letter that the consulate needs to give my husband a visa because I will make less than 4500 euro/month.

BTW - the business is in a very small town and near the mayor - we have to play by the rules and have visas.

Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks, Anne Drolet

Message Lori,

Thanks for your response. I do not have this in writing, this information comes directly from the Gerante (the legal representative of the business) who has been dealing directly with ANAEM. We do need to get this in writing - thank you for that suggestion. Once it is clarified in writing perhaps I can decipher whether their issue is also with his paperwork and / or fees. We have done all the paperwork and I paid for my visa out of pocket - if this is there issue we can get it cleared. Yes, 4500 euro is a lot, even here!

Thanks! Anne

Message Do you have this in writing? 4500 Euros per MONTH is a pretty darn good salary in France - way above the national average. I can't imagine why they base this on salary, I would ask that it be clarified - in writing.

Perhaps they are telling you that they will not do the paperwork for your husband and/or pay for his Visa. Often this is the case for overseas positions - not just in France. The employer takes care of the employee's VISA, but not any spouse or children. This can vary from employer to employer and from position to position. This doesn't mean he can't join you in France. He (your husband) can apply for the VISA himself, just like any other non-EU citizen does. It isn't that expensive or all that difficult.

If I were you, I would clarify, in writing, exactly what they are telling you.

Good luck.

Getting long term VISA for France is not normally a difficult process.
