I'm planning to apply for a french long term stay visa. I meet all the qualifications and have done all the paperwork for my family. Whew!! A lot of work.
I'ld like to go to London for three or four months and visit with some friends first. Is it possible to apply for my long-term stay visa at the French Consulate in London??? I've already email the nearest french consulate in Chicago but i haven't received a response yet. THanks.
Also, I'm willing to apply for the visa in Chicago and fly back to pick it up but that would be really expensive and difficult traveling alone with two little children. I'm a widow.

sorry michele...but you definitly have to go back to Chicago to get your visa, and even apply for it. To apply for a French long term visa you need to have an appointment with the French consulate and that's when you give the file with all the papers and docs required. K Know also that it takes aa average of 2/3 months to get your visa...where you're supposed to be in the USA. You should definitly call the French consulate in Chicago before making any plans.
good luck to you,
Caroleen
