Subject: French driver's license - change of addr. to one in USA
Date: Monday, April 03, 2006
Name: Bill Gibbons
Message: I lived in Paris 1987-1989. I obtained a French driver's license. I was told it is for life and to be sure, it is stamped "permanent. I now live in the US but I travel to Europe fairly often. Is my French driver's license valid although my home address on it is incorrect? Can I change the address to one in the US and maintain its validity?

Any guidance you can provide is appreciated.

Message Your drivers license is valid for life.... I wouldn't change a thing on it. Just leave it . If you get stopped tell them that it is your current address.

Message Bill - Yes, your drivers license is good for life - assuming it is not revoked for points taken (doesn't sound like your case). As to putting a U.S. address on it, I doubt they would accept that. Can you use a friend or relative's address in France? You could contact the Prefecture in the area where your license was issued and ask them, but I am pretty sure a U.S. address on a French driving license will be a no no.
