Subject: Month-Long Job in France
Date: Friday, March 31, 2006
Name: Amelia
Message: Hi Everyone... I am an 18 year old student who is about to graduate from highschool. I am very eager to go to France this summer... but I will probably only be able to be there for a month (middle of July to the middle of August). I would like to go by myself, and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to find a month-long job of some sort in France. I welcome any ideas... thank you!

Message I beleive everything is possible. It is incorrect to think that all French business are closed during summer what about all hotels in the French Riviera the Atlantic Coast or any touristic places!!!

It is true that this add does not mention enough info to understand exactly all the details necessary

Contact me if you want help I am in France...

Regards,

Lydia

Message Have to agree with Samantha on this one.

Unemployment is quite high in the smaller villages of France. I don't believe you mentioned exactly where you plan to be?? or if your employment is needed to pay for your accommodations?? or if you speak French.

Another suggestion is to contact your local Universities to see if they have any exchange type programs with French Universities. If you are enrolled at a University for the Fall, perhaps you could start with them.

Short of that, sometimes Church groups offer country exchanges, etc.

Camps are a good idea too, but they often have rigorous requirements for hiring and training that goes with it. Still worth a try.

Do you have to work?

Message I don't mean to be dash your hopes, but with a 10% unemployment rate and closer to 25% for young people, I doubt you'll have much luck coming over here for just a month, especially in August when most things shut down. You will also need a visa and a work permit to do this, which could prove complicated for such a short time period and for someone with no diploma.

Here's a couple of ideas to start you out though:

You could try being an au-pair, but that would more likely be 3+ months.

You could apply to some of the English-language camps here in France.
