I'm 40, both parents are dececed. Both died when I was a minor. Mother died in US having applied for but not yet recieved-US citizenship. Father was American. I lived in france from 1981-1984, with maternal grandfather as gaurdian of person, and my US paternal grandmother as gaurdian of estate.
At 17, I returned to US with French Grandfather still gaurdian technically until I reached 18. Relations are very strained now. French Grandparents have made a 'living will" deeding me proporty with a building on it, through the LA french Consulate who supposedly will turn it over to me upon their death, which is now imminent.
I managed to get my mothers mother to send me the offical birth record of my mother in 1942. How do I begin to get duel citizenship? I am having a hard time getting the duplicates of my 5 marraiges and divorces which is required to get a passport, Until 18 I had one....So what happens if they pass on before I can get my hands on a passport? Do I have rights? how do I find out? Will I be allowed to attend the burial there "pending" acceptance of my passport application since I'll be officialy the owner of real proporty in france? Is there Any agency or persons in france who might assist me, or atleast help me protect my interests - (i'm not even sure of what they are specifically.
There is wealth and american predjudice involved with this French family, who dont want for me to keep the proporty. They'd all be more than happy to take it off my hands for a cash sum. I'd like to rent it out as an income proporty, but being unable to go there I fear its impossible.
The French consulate no longer returns my calls, since "I have no offical buisness with them"
There must be someone who knows how I could rally some allies to me - so I can inform myself, or try to, I appreciate any suggestions at all. marie
