Hi
was all ready to go back to Japan until I met a charming European woman and well...
Languages are savings are not aproblem for me but I have questions about residency rules and costs and procedures of buying PROPERTY. I have heard that owning property in France permits one to live there year after year.
want to confirm this.
Also I just read that in France: " legal and registration fees amount to 7% (SEVEN % !!!) of the purchase price. Then one must pay agent fees. Can this be true? If so, than France is truly the last of the Communist countries . Let us all link hands and sing a round of our Red Anthem..."C'est la lut.. te finale...."

If you add it all up it is MORE than 7% of the purchase price. That is if you use a Notaire and agent. It nearly sent us to an early heart attack when we found out. The cost (fees) of buying our house is more than two average household incomes in France. Better check it out thoroughly before you make the purchase. It was unbelievable to us.
And, NO, owning property in France does not give you residency. If you are a non EU citizen there are other legal requirements if you intend to live here legally.
