To all French-American couples:
When I marry in France, will my marriage then be recognized in the U.S. or will I have to marry in the U.S. too? Or go through the Embassy or something? Just not sure how the U.S. handles this. It's kind of a gray area for the two of us. Can anyone help?

Oh boy, I wouldn't believe that one for a minute, that the mairie will file the paperwork for you! Given the typical "fonctionnaire"'s laziness for even their own job, I'd be surprised that that is the truth. Better double check and have copies of all your paperwork and know where to file what in case they don't.

A marriage in France is recognized by the US. (You don't need to get married in the US too.) I am going to be getting married in France and the US Embassy told me that the Mairie will file all of the papers for us with the US government. We don't have to do anything.

Do either of you have information about getting married in Paris, such as photographer, minister, public park venue, etc. who speak English?

Check with the Embassy. In the opposite situation, married in the US, we had to go to the French consulate to get our marriage recognized in France. I'd imagine it's similar the other way around.
