I am currently in the process of having a building on our property in southern France converted into a wood shop and my problem is finding quality tools (table saw, planer, band saw, etc) without spending more than the renovation is costing. I'm looking for tools that are a few steps up form those available at places like Leroy Merlin or Castorama. I'm even considering buying what I need here in the states and shipping them over. I know that I'll need to add a transformer/converter, but I think the cost will still be less and the choices are certainly greater in the states. Any advice?

'Is there such a thing as a frequency converter which would change the 50hz to 60hz? '
Sorry, that I don't know.

I have tried all of the DIY stores. I'm looking for much higher quality tools. I know that a transformer will step down the 220V to 110V. Is there such a thing as a frequency converter which would change the 50hz to 60hz?

Even if you buy the tools in the states and a transformer, the tools will burn out very quickly, and they don't work as efficiently. Have you looked in BricoMarche, Mr. Bricolage and those type stores?
