Subject: Missed convocation at prefecture
Date: Saturday, October 15, 2005
Name: dmen
Message: Hello all,

I just discovered this forum looking for information about whether this had ever happended to anyone.

I was getting all my documents together for what I had assumed was a convocation on the 18th and there on the back of my récipisée staring back at me was the date Oct. 5th!!!!!

Needless to say I'm now seriously stressed! This was my third convocation, as I was always missing something at the other ones and now I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.

I guess I'll just turn up at the prefecture monday morning and throw myself at their mercy, though given my experiences I don't imagine I'll receive any.

If anyone has had to deal with a similar situation any information would be appreciated.

If not I'll post about what happened so at least someone else can benefit if they find themselves in a similar situation.

Message I assume you are not in départment 94. I would not encourage anyone to be late or beg for mercy at the préfecture in Créteil -- I think none will be forthcoming.

I did receive carte de séjour after 2nd visit, but not without significant (and unnecessary) harrassment on their part.

Bon courage, Pat

Message Well I've been forced to eat my words about the ineffeciency and cold-heartedness of the French bureaucracy.

I went to the Prefecture, explained the situation. And,amazingly they were totally sympathetic. Gave me another recipissé and gave me another appointment at the earliest available date.

Amazing!!!
