Message Does time spent during ones education count towards the two years needed? That would be quite remarkable to simply go to school for two years and be eligible for citizenship afterwards.

Message Actually I called the US embassy today and asked for the main person in charge for citizenship questions. I asked him the same question and he told me that there is no such thing he said the minimum is five years to gain citizenship. He was wrong...here is the law taken from www.legifrance.gouv.fr luckily its in english.

Art. 21-17

(Act n° 93-933 of 22 July 1993)

Subject to the exceptions laid down in Articles 21-18, 21-19 and 21-20, naturalisation may be granted only to an alien who proves an usual residence in France for five years before the submission of the request.

Art. 21-18

(Act n° 73-42 of 9 Jan. 1973)

The probationary period referred to in Article 21-17 shall be reduced to two years:

1° As regards the alien who has successfully completed two years of university education in view of getting a diploma conferred by a French university or establishment of higher education;

2° As regards the alien who gave or can give significant services to France owing to his competences and talents.

Message You don't say what citizenship you currently hold. Your nearest Consulate or Embassy DO know the procedures. I suggest you try them again and ask for a Supervisor or someone who is willing to answer your questions.

Also, you could contact the University you wish to apply to. They too will know the answer.

Good luck.
