La Roche sur Foron Municipal Elections 2008Vote Counting

Here are some photos of the votes being counted during the Municipal Elections of 2008 in La Roche sur Foron. All photos of counting are from vote bureau 3.

Counting of votes in France is an open, public event where anyone who wants to can watch.

Ballets in France are put into small envelops and then placed into the ballet box by the voter. Once the voting is finished the number of total envelops is counted and then they are placed in large envelops of hundred or so. All these large envelops are placed in the ballet box until the ballets are counted individuality.

Votes are counted individuality by hand and not by machine. Each envelope is opened and the ballot is removed. Once removed the name on the ballet is read aloud and placed into its proper pile. When there are no more ballots to count, each pile is counted and the number recorded. The process is then repeated until there are no more votes to count.
