Southern BurgundyN6 National Road

Part of France's Route 66

The N6 road, N stands for Nationale, was once the northern half of France's Route 66. In Southern Burgundy it runs north/south along the Saône River and was once the main truck road from Paris to Lyon.

In some areas the N6 is in the process of being reclassified to a departmental road. All that means for you is that the name will change i.e. N6 to D906.

Thanks to France's highway building program the N6 has lost much of its long distance traffic to the A6 Autoroute. But as the A6 is a toll road and the N6 isn't, there are still many who use the N6.

If you want an iconic photo find a Borne (distance marker) on the N6 national road. You'll know it when you see it, as the top end will be red with a white N6.
