Northern BurgundyHautes-Côtes Located west of the N74 road between Dijon and Beaune lies the Hautes-Côtes of Burgundy. Hautes-Côtes loosely translates to 'back hills' in English. This chain of rolling hills is full of vineyards, wheat fields and forest. The Hautes-Côtes borders some of the best wine growing areas in France, including the Hautes-Côtes De Nuits and the Hautes-Côtes De Beaune. Any visit to the Hautes-Côtes would not be complete without a wine tasting. Look any signs marked Dégustation - French for wine tasting. Not only is the Hautes-Côtes for wine lovers, its rolling hills make for wonderful bike rides and its forest make splendid hikes. Driving through the Hautes-Côtes, if you don't have the time for biking or hiking is also advisable. The photos below were taken during my trip to Hautes-Côtes during the summer of 2004. We stayed in the Hautes-Côtes for two weeks in a Gîte Rural - rural rental house. This allowed us ample time to discover the delights that the Hautes-Côtes has to offer.
