Brou MonasteryChâteau Andelot At the foot of the Jura Mountains in the Franche Comté lies Château Andelot, a 12th century castle that offers its visitors not only eight centuries of history, but also a relaxing holiday. As the château, a private residence also doubles as a bed and breakfast, with six rooms and one suite to choose from. It is believe the château was built sometime around 1158 by the first Seigneur d’Andelot – Humbert III, a member of the Coligny family whose descendants lived in Château Andelot until 1702. After 1702 the château was sold many times, finally landing in the possession of the Belin family, the present owners. The château sits on a cliff overlooking the village of Andelot lès St Amour (called Andelot-Morval on some maps). This means that visitors have a wonderful view of the Jura Mountains that are to the east of the château. It also meant that the château had three natural walls for protection. The château is smaller than in its heyday, but it is still nevertheless a castle. There is still the castle keep, where two rooms and the suit are located. It is also in the castle keep where breakfast is served. As well as the keep there is the castle gate with two towers on each side. Also on the grounds is a church. There are a number of actives that one can do at Château Andelot, including tennis, swimming, hiking, mountain biking and croquet. You are also free to just relax!
