Q & A

Subject: How long can I stay in France?

Question: Hi - We are coming to Paris in October and will come back from London in March 31. We wanted to spend most of the time in France and go to England March 1. Will we have any problems doing this? We do not have Visa's for any of the EU countries. Someone said only 90 days in France. How will they know?

Answer:

Yes, as understand it France will only give a 3 month visa when entering the country. That said rarely do American passports get stamped, so the French authorities will have no idea when you arrived. Interesting enough Britain gives a six month visa when entering the country.
One solution for you, would be to get a long term(6 month) visa in the states before you arrive in France. I know it can be gotten, I received one before I went to France the first time. Everything was done for me so I don't know what paperwork is needed. Another solution would be to leave France after three months and then reenter, this in theory should work.
Lastly, the only way you will get definitive answers is by calling you nearest French embassy or consulate. Have a nice trip!
PS: When you arrive in Britain, be prepared to answer a lot of questions. I don't know what it is, but British customs people want your life story before letting you in their country.
