Q & AMoving/Living/WorkingCost of an Apartment in Nice, Marseille or Lyon

Question: I am an American planning to move to Nice, Marseille or Lyon this September for a 4-7 month work project. About how much should a decent studio or one bedroom flat cost?
Since I will only be there for a limited period of time how easy is it to sublet an apartment that is already furnished, etc?
I will have to get a long-term visa. I am a consultant for a British register non-profit that's main office is in Canada. My project deals with European Union policy issues so I need to be in the EU. Since it isn't a French organization, I shouldn't need a French work permit, should I?

Answer: It's tricky to answer about the price of a studio or one bedroom apartment in Nice, Marseille or Lyon, but I would guess in the 300 to 600 euros range. Yes, subletting would be easer but I can't help you find a place, as I don't live in Nice, Marseille or Lyon. I would suggest you try - http://www.bonjour.fr.
If your only going to be in France for 4 to 7 months and working for a NGO then you don't necessarily need to get a long-term visa and or work permit. It's possible (I've heard) to leave France for one day and then 'renew' your three-month visa. Also most times with Americans your passport will NOT be stamped. So therefore no one will know how long you have been in France. Other than that I would suggest you call your nearest French consulate.
