Q & AMoving/Living/WorkingBecome a French Citizen

Question: No one seems to be able to answer my question about French nationality! I am American married to a French woman, but we have never lived there. The wedding was in France, though, so we have all of those documents. We are currently living in London and thinking about moving to Paris. Being married to a French national how do I go about getting more permanent EU residency by way of a passport or other document. Am I entitled to a French passport?

Answer: Yes, you will be able to get a French passport, but it will take over year. It is a real plus being married in France, as you should have all the right documents. You can get a passport after you have gotten French nationality.
I would suggest you apply for French nationality through the embassy in London. As long as you have all the paperwork you should be okay. See French Citizenship for the list of documents that I had to supply to get my French nationality. I applied for mine in France but the process should be the same.
Once you get French nationality, you will receive an official letter stating so, with that you go to your nearest embassy or prefecture (this might have changed by now you might need to you to you local Town Hall) and start the passport process. Jeff
