Q & A

Subject: Basel to France.

Question: I am currently in Basel Switzerland and would like to know some interesting, historical or charming towns to visit in France, that are not too far away. I am thinking about a Saturday day trip and would love any advice. Thanks.

Answer: Here are my standard things to see in Alsace- In Strasbourg, Centre Ville(center of the city), La Petite France and Cathedral. Outside of Strasbourg, Haut-Kœnigsbourh(go for the view), Mont Sainte-Odile(don’t miss the pagan wall), Ecomusée d’Alsace(living museum of Alsace near town of Ungersheim)and Route du vin d’Alsace(Wine Road of Alsace). Also try to visit the city of Colmar and the towns of Sélestat and Sainte-Maire-aux-Mines.

Any of those places are both lovely and historical, Sélestat local rumor has it, started the Christmas tree tradition. You could also think about going to Mulhouse, as it has lots of nice museums, web site http://www.ot.ville-mulhouse.fr.

We live in Strasbourg and have driven to Basel a lot to see family, the drive takes about hour and a half. Basel to Mulhouse only takes half and hour, if that, the drive Basel to Colmar shouldn’t take more than an hour. Other web sites you might think about looking at are, http://www.colmar-alsace.com/, http://www.visit-alsace.com/ and http://www.strasbourg.com.
