Q & A

Subject: Answering the telephone in France.

Question: What does a French person typically say when answering a phone call?

Answer: Normally when a French person answers the phone they say “Allo”. “Allo” sounds like the letter “L” followed by the word “low”. In business sometimes the person answering will state their name and then say “Bonjour” or even “J'écoute.” (I am listening.).
