Subject: Leaving France for more than a year with the Carte de sejour
Date: Tuesday, January 09, 2007
Name: Scarlet
Message: My husband who is a french citizen will be leaving the country (France, where we live) to work at a embassy so my question is can I leave France for more than a year and still keep my carte de sejour and the process of becoming a resident or do I need to live full time in the country? Thank you!!!

Message If you stay out of the country for more than 3 years you have to start the whole process of obtaining a carte de sejour all over again. This is what happened to me.

If you are going with your husband and he is working at a French Embassy as a diplomat abroad, you may still be considered as living on French soil...

I hope that helps.
