Subject: Does an American Au pair Need Visa?
Date: Wednesday, November 15, 2006
Name: Molly
Message: I am an American who is looking to be an au pair in Strasbourg, France for about 6 months. Does anyone know if I will need a Visa for that short of time?

Message 200¬ seems low to me. How many hours will you be working? And will you be required to do any cleaning or cooking? Most au pairs that I've met have been paid at least 300¬ per month.

Message One more question....I'm living with a family that is supplying housing, food, transportation, french classes. They are only paying me 200 euros a month. I'm not sure if this will be enough pocket money to survive and do a small amount of traveling each month. What do you think? Should I ask for a bit more? Thanks SO much for your reply.

Message Yes, you definitely need a visa, but don't worry, the process is pretty painless.
