We are moving to France next month and taking or two cats with us. I've read where someone takes their cats in a bag on the flight with them. This is not an option for us as we have two small children as well (5 and 3yrs).
Could you tell me what kind of pet carriers are suitable for air flight? Do the cats have to be in different crates or can they go together in one big enough for both of them?
Thanks so much!

Sorry Cindy, try this link. When I first started getting information about my move I called the French Embassy in the USA and they let me to this website. It gives you the rules for bringing animals into France. From what I understand you must have the health certificate completed by a Certified vetinarian - not all vets are certified- so ask. Then it must be endorsed by a vet listed on the map in your area. There is a certificate you can d/l on this site that is in French and English. It sounds complicated but its what the woman at the embassy said I needed so I dont want to take any chances! I also had to have my cat microchipped. Why Im not sure as the chip wont be valid if my cat is lost in France- but I did anyway just to be safe.

Thank you very much for your response to my question. In the meantime, I called AirFrance and was told that I needed just a solid sided pet carrier with the wire door on the front (which I already had one of and just bought another one tonight). I only need a pet health certificate done 10 days prior to departure from my veterinarian, a recent rabies certificate and we are good to go.
I tried to open the site you mentioned, but for some reason was unable to.
Is there something else I don't know about that you have discovered you/we need in addition to what I have listed?
Best of luck in your move!

Hello,
I have done a lot of research on this subject as I am moving to France and bringing my cat along as well. You must follow the rules on this site http://www.ambafranceus.org. There are strict regulations you must follow to bring your pet to France. As far as the carriers you need to contact the airline you are flying on and ask for their specific regulations as well. Usually all of the information you need is on the website of the airline you are flying. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!
