PoliticsFrench Legislative Elections 2007

Legislative elections will be held in France on June 10th and 17th. All 577 seats of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale) will be up for election. For the first round on June 10th a candidate must get an absolute majority to win. If no candidate receives an absolute majority then there is a second round vote June 17th. The second round consists of the two top vote getters plus any candidate that received at least 12.5% of the votes of all registered voters. The candidate with the most votes in the second round, regardless if there is a majority wins.

It’s not uncommon for there to be politicking between rounds with some candidates dropping out of the second round even if they got more than 12.5%, to support another candidate.
