PoliticsEuropean Elections 2014 Above: Each list has its own public space for posters and announcements. On May 25th 2014 voters in France chose their Euro deputies. The total number of seats for France in the European Parliament is 74 (2 more than in 2009), out of 751total seats. Deputies are elected for 5 year. For the first time the political composition of the European Parliament will determine the President of the European Commission. In much the same way the a Parliament elects a Prime Minister. Voting is through a one round party-list proportional representation system. Voters vote for a list of candidates with seats being allocated to each list in proportion to the number of votes the list receives. Any list that gets more than 5% of the vote from a constituency gets at least one seat. Along with French citizens, EU citizens can also vote in European Elections. France's 74 seats are divided into eight constituencies:
