Haute-Savoie (French Alps)Les Gorges du Pont du Diable Les Gorges du Pont du Diable - Devil's Bridge Gorges is named after a fallen boulder that created a bridge over a narrow section of the Dranse de Morzine River. The gorge is a good example of rock erosion formed by the Dranse de Morzine. Over time a small crack became the narrow canyon you can see today. The bridge is named for the devil because the people of the area were religious and the area forbidding. Les Gorges du Pont du Diable has been visited by tourist since 1893. During your visit you can see the path the first tourist took, the old path includes steps carved into rocks. Today's visit starts with a walk into the gorge 70 meters (230 feet) above the Dranse de Morzine. The visit goes along a footbridge built into the sides of the river. Les Gorges du Pont du Diable is open daily 9.30-6pm from late April to the end of September. Admission €5.40 adults 20+, 6-15 €3.40 and 16-20 €4.40. Tickets are bought in the gift shop/cafe. You then walk down to the gorge for a guided tour. Tours last about 50 minutes. There is a shelter at the entrance. The gift shop/cafe has a small display about the Les Gorges du Pont du Diable. Les Gorges du Pont du Diable is in the hamlet of La Jotty between Thonon-les-Bains and Morzine on the D902 road. Follow @jeffsteiner
