Haute-Savoie (French Alps)Château de Montrottier

The Château de Montrottier is a medieval castle on a small hill surrounded by walls and gardens. It was built as a fort but is still pleasing to the eye. As with most medieval castles, Château de Montrottier dominates the countryside around it. The oldest parts of the Château date to the 13th century, with most construction continuing up until the 15th century. The tallest tower is 110 feet high and the Château has a small chapel.

Inside you can find a large collection of furniture, arms and tapestries some of which was collected by Léon Marès at the end of the 19th century. The Marès' collection includes rare objects from Africa and the far east.

The Château de Montrottier is located near Annecy and the Gorges du Fier and is visited from March to October. Check the Château's website for times and admission information.
