Southern BurgundyBresse Bourguignonne

The Bresse Bourguignonne or the Burgundy area of the Bresse Region is different than the rest of Burgundy. The countryside is flatter and houses remind one of the style found in Alsace.

Even agricultural production changes. Burgundy is best known for wine and to lesser extent cattle. That changes as you cross the Saône River and head east. The Bresse Bourguignonne, is renowned for poultry and in particular Poulet de Bresse.

Poulet de Bresse is a white free range chicken prized by gourmets for flavor. Poulet de Bresse is the only Appellation d'origine contrôlée poultry in France.

If you would like to buy a Poulet de Bresse many producers sell directly to the public or you can find them in grocery stores or markets.

The capital of the Bresse Bourguignonne is Louhans. During WWII there were Royal Air Force crashes in the villages of La Chapelle-Thècle, Montcony and Savigny-en-Revermont.
